1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions govern the relationship between Language Link International (“LLI”, “we”, “us”, “our”) and host families (“you”, “your”, “Host Family”) who provide accommodation to international students participating in our cultural immersion programmes.

As a host family, you agree to:

  • Provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for the student
  • Provide a private / shared bedroom with adequate heating, lighting, and study facilities
  • Provide three meals daily (breakfast, packed lunch for school, and evening meal)
  • Include the student in family life and activities where appropriate
  • Ensure all adult household members have valid Enhanced DBS certificates, or Language Link has arranged this at their expense
  • Maintain appropriate safeguarding standards at all times
  • Communicate promptly with LLI regarding any concerns about the student
  • Notify LLI immediately of any emergency situations
  • Ensure LLI and the Spanish parents are informed should the host family wish to take the Spanish student away for a night/nights away
  • Consent to the exchange of family and contact details with the Spanish family to facilitate communication before and during the hosting period
  • Comply with all applicable UK laws and regulations

The welfare of students is our primary concern. Host families must:

  • Never use physical punishment or inappropriate discipline
  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to LLI
  • Ensure the student's privacy is respected if required
  • Not leave students under 16 unattended overnight
  • Ensure appropriate supervision at all times
  • Inform LLI and the Spanish parents if taking the student away for overnight trips

4. Accommodation Standards

Host family accommodation must meet the following minimum standards:

  • Adequate natural and artificial lighting
  • Working heating system
  • Access to bathroom facilities

5. Compensation & Payment

LLI will pay host families the agreed rate for each student hosted. Payment terms:

  • Payment is made by bank transfer during the initial week of the hosting period

  • Deductions may be made for early student departures or breach of terms

6. Insurance

Students travel with travel insurance arranged through the airline with their flight. Students also carry their European Health Card. Host families should ensure their own home insurance is adequate and inform their insurer that they are hosting international students.

7. Termination

Either party may terminate the hosting arrangement with reasonable notice. LLI reserves the right to remove a student immediately if:

9. Liability

Whilst to date there has never been such a case, LLI accepts no liability for loss or damage to host family property caused by students, except where LLI has been negligent. Host families should report any damage promptly.
